Striving for Excellence

I was asked to write this blog post on Ann Kullberg's Color magazine website, reminding us to pursue our art in hardships ... "No matter who rejects you. No matter that they say colored pencil is not a traditionally accepted media. No matter that no one gets your point of view, your humor, or the stories you are drawing. No matter that someone will always be better than you. You can after all, keep striving to improve, to get accepted even though, to make people see your story. To get better at hands and mouths because a portrait doesn’t have to be a picture with any flaws."

CPCAU, Signature Artist

I am honored to be selected amongst a great international group of artists to be recognized as a Signature Member of the Coloured Pencil Community of Australasia, Inc. Click on image to see my page on their site.

About Lis...

What I do

I believe there is nothing that this pigment in its precision pointed stick, can’t do or that oil paint could do better. My competitive nature is out to prove that. I still approach my work like a painter. Layering in the old-school oil painterly way. Never striving for photo-realism, I love to see the artist’s hand in work. Like that perfect, genius brush stroke in a master’s painting, you will see all of my pencil marks, if possible. I want to inspire. Not only with what a media can do, but what a person can do. After all, a well-trained artist is a person who can do anything.

This is my Bio

Lis Zadravec’s extraordinary and inspirational award-winning artwork, created primarily in colored pencil, expresses poignant human expression. Her subjects reveal themselves with their vulnerabilities and their strengths. The artist’s innate skills are combined with superb detail and composition, masterful treatment of facial features and hands, a myriad of textures, and articulated light and shadow. Her style is reminiscent of the masterful illustrations and paintings of generations past. She demonstrates an uncanny ability to master her medium.
