20th Annual Yellow Barn Instructor Exhibition

This annual exhibition showcases the versatility and talent of instructors from the Yellow Barn Studio, Glen Echo Park's painting and drawing residency. These works range from still life to abstract. Each one of these artists has distinguished themselves as both a master artist and a master teacher. The Yellow Barn Studio is a flourishing center for drawing, painting, printmaking, and art history at Glen Echo Park. Founded twenty-five years ago, the Yellow Barn Studio is now one of the largest painting centers in the Washington D.C. area, thanks to the outstanding instructors whose works are on display in this online exhibition. Through their talent and love of teaching, they have built the reputation of the Yellow Barn Studio as the place to study art. The selection of works highlights what Yellow Barn studio prides itself on-- the diverse philosophies of our faculty.

Friends of the Yellow Barn Drawing & Watermedia Show

The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio welcome you to the Drawing & Water Media Exhibition. Sept 5th - Dec. 1st

This year, the Drawing Show has expanded to include all water-based media. This exhibition recognizes the importance of exceptional drawing skills and impressive use of water-based media. The variety of media includes: color pencil, charcoal, graphite, ink, watercolor, gouache, and mixed media. 
Another part of this exciting show is that you, the viewer, has the opportunity to choose two of your favorite works: one for an instructor and one for a Member of the Friends. Voting will be open through October 5. A People’s Choice award of $250 will be given to both of the winning artists. The winners will be highlighted in the gallery show through the end of the show.

 Each year, our club hosts an onsite annual member art show. This year, our plans were altered. But our love of creating art was not. Please take this time to enjoy viewing the images of Summer and scape back to those carefree days of this magnificent season.

What I do

I believe there is nothing that this pigment in its precision pointed stick, can’t do or that oil paint could do better. My competitive nature is out to prove that. I still approach my work like a painter. Layering in the old-school oil painterly way. Never striving for photo-realism, I love to see the artist’s hand in work. Like that perfect, genius brush stroke in a master’s painting, you will see all of my pencil marks, if possible. I want to inspire. Not only with what a media can do, but what a person can do. After all, a well-trained artist is a person who can do anything.

This is my Bio

Lis Zadravec’s extraordinary and inspirational award-winning artwork, created primarily in colored pencil, expresses poignant human expression. Her subjects reveal themselves with their vulnerabilities and their strengths. The artist’s innate skills are combined with superb detail and composition, masterful treatment of facial features and hands, a myriad of textures, and articulated light and shadow. Her style is reminiscent of the masterful illustrations and paintings of generations past. She demonstrates an uncanny ability to master her medium.
